Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pet sitter?

A pet sitter is a professional who loves and understands pets. You contract with the sitter to come to your home to care for your pets and to follow your specific instructions. You tell us what the pet needs in addition to feeding, bathroom breaks, and lots of attention!

Who will come to my home?

Jeanne Hertzog is the owner and will usually be the person who cares for your pets. However, during busy periods there are equally qualified sitters who help out. All of our sitters are at least 21 years of age and are bonded and insured.

How does this differ from boarding in a kennel?

Some pets do better in one environment than another. Advantages of pet sitting include that the pet remains in his usual environment, there is less chance of exposure to communicable diseases, and you will have one less thing to do prior to your departure because you do not have to drop off your pet at the kennel --- and just think --- your pet will be there to greet you when you return home!

Is it safe to use a pet sitter?

All of our sitters are 100% reliable, bonded, and insured and are people who love pets and have experience caring for them. We are especially concerned for your safety and the safety of your pets. We have procedures in place for everything including safeguarding your keys and personal information.

What happens if my pet gets sick while I am out of town?

First of all, your pet sitter will try to contact you immediately. Ark Angels does exactly what you do in that situation, including seeking veterinary care if that is necessary. We will keep a careful watch over your pet and make extra visits to your home to check on his condition if necessary.

What are the service areas?

Ark Angels provides care in Lexington, Gilbert, and the surrounding areas. If you are in the Midlands area and have an emergency, we will share information about other area pet sitters and boarding facilities or try to accommodate you.

Can I use your services when I am in town?

Yes, folks with a new puppy or an ill kitten may want someone to check on the pet in the middle of the day. Others need assistance because the owner is ill or had surgery and temporarily can’t do things like walk the dog.

How do I find out more or sign up for service?

Call us with any questions or take a look at our web site. We do not commit to pet sit for you, nor do you commit to hire us until the written contract is signed. For all new users, it is absolutely necessary that a pre-sitting visit be scheduled. This is free and gives us a chance to get to know your pets and gives you a chance to get to know us. You should allow at least 45 minutes for this visit because we will spend time learning about your pets and their care and we will fully explain our service agreement to you.

What if my plans change and I do not go out of town after all or if I return early?

If you have paid during the pre-sitting visit and have to cancel, we have a very understanding refund policy. The most you would forfeit would be a $10-$15 holiday fee (if a holiday is involved) and the cost of one visit. We also provide for credits and reimbursements in most cases for early returns. Check with us for the specifics.
