There wasn't time to do everything, but this would have been fun if there had been time - trying to fnd all the dwarf statues in Wroclaw! Here is one that we saw outside the old city prison. The prison came into being in the 14th century and was no longer used as a prison after the 18th century. However, it was a perfect resting spot for Wroclaw's littlest criminal!
There are dwarf statues throughout the city and one web site says that the tourist office has a map showing where to find them. I have no personal knowlege of that, but with more time to spare I probably would have been looking for the map. They remind me of the gnomes that I place in my garden. Perhaps I will have to look online to find pictures of more of them. The statues began appearing in Wroclaw a few years ago and remind people about the history of the 1980's. The dwarfs also relate to much earlier history in Wroclaw. I really liked this comment about the dwarfs: "The figures relate to the medieval history of Wroclaw - the dwarf - a butcher or the washer present the variety of professions of the citizens of the medieval city. Some of the dwarfs, however, as dwarfs do - are just having fun riding a bike or a pigeon!"
