I have been focusing on Poland lately and pictures from Poland... however, my garden is still growing and I am back to making quilts and quilt related plans for next year!
As for my garden, there were some tomatoes and peppers ready to be picked when I got home. The most impressive peppers are the Tasty Yellow Grill Peppers which are really large. They have a mild flavor and I hope to grill with some of them over the weekend. I also planted several kinds of decorative miniature peppers and they are very cute. I will have to take some pictures soon. I have picked some tomatoes, but the pickings have been slim this year. Today I picked the first of the Transparent Yellow tomatoes. I haven't tasted them yet. The plants look healthier than usual so there is just something about the weather this year that they didn't like! I have been picking tomato hornworms, too, to get them off the plants! They blend right in and are hard to find, but a sure hint that you have some is when almost all the leaves disappear off the plants all at once!
We had our quilt guild meeting right after I returned from my trip. One of our members gave an excellent talk about different kinds of batting and showed examples of each - even examples that showed how the quilt would appear after it had been washed. She also talked about which types are more environmentally friendly. Anyway, Vivian Perry is a good friend of mine and has a quilt business so check her out: http://vivianperry.blogspot.com/ and http://www.havebugwillquilt.blogspot.com/
On the quilting side, I have begun making the Chocolate Ripple quilt in Janet Jones Worley's Book Quilts for Ice Cream Lovers. I think the colors I have selected will work out great. (You know how you always worry about them until after you make the first few blocks and then see if they will work together?) I have to apply the binding and label to my Birthday Blocks 2010 wall hanging and it will be finished. I will post a picture soon. Thanks to all the members in the Carolina Lilies Birthday Block Exchange who make these red, green, and white Dewey Dream blocks for me.
Well, that catches you up with most of what is going on in my garden and in my world of quilting! Have a good weekend.
