In My Garden in June
June 29, 2010

I will start out by saying that in my garden in June, it is very hot and dry!  There are bad thunderstorms somewhere in the general area lately, but all we do is hear the thunder and see the lightning -- no rain for us.

If you read the Garden Arts part of my web site, you know that one of my interests is miniature plants.  I planted some "normal" squash seeds this spring and one of my squash plants is producing miniature squash.  Here is a photo of the first one produced.  It is fully grown in that picture and has since that time produced another squash of the same size.  I am planning to save the seeds from both of them and see what they produce next year.

Other things of interest in the garden are the blueberries that are just beginning to ripen.  (Picture below)  Also, the daylilies have been magnificent as usual.  I will try to post some pictures of them soon.

Some know that I am a Master Gardener in Lexington County.  I recently volunteered to be the coordinator for the displays that we put up at the libraries throughout the county.  Distributing library displays took up quite a bit of my time last week.  I definitely will be creating a display featuring daylilies.  They are an excellent flower to grow in this area.  No matter how hot and dry it is, they do some blooming.  I know they would love some rain from time to time though!
