I have been trying to learn some Polish prior to my trip to Poland. I got a wonderful set of CDs that I am using to learn what I can in a short amount of time. They are right - it pays to learn a language when you are young! When I was in my early teens, I asked my fathr to teach me some Polish and those few words and phrases are fairly easy for me to remember. Anyway, good-bye (See you later) was a phrase I just could not seem to remember. I don't think I learned that one when I was younger. Here is what it looks like in Polish: Do zobaczenia. After having so much trouble remembering that phrase, I came up with a helper - Dobie Zinnia. The Dobie is like the character Dobie Gillis from the TV show in the late 1950's - early 1960's and zinnia I had no problem remembering because I love gardens so much. Well, do zobaczenia doesn't sound exactly like Dobie Zinnia, but it is close enough that I can now recall the phrase!
So in closing today, I will say Dobie Zinnia!
